Why MDA?

Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) is a vital component of any ocean state’s agenda. Through the effective understanding of everything associated with the maritime domain, governments ensure security, safety, and the economic benefits that their marine environments offer.

MDA can be described under three facets.

• Maritime Situational Awareness –gathering data about the marine environment and human activity within it to create a complete picture that can be analysed over time. This picture forms the foundation on which MDA is built.
• Maritime Threat Awareness –identifying actual and potential threats to the marine environment and those operating within it.
• Maritime Response Awareness –monitoring and tracking of resources to ensure they can be tasked and deployed to counter threats.
